Your 5 steps to a vintage living room

You’ve always enjoyed the colour splash that came with every Austin Powers’ movie and can’t get over the retro furniture in the legendary Wolf of Wall Street ? Then you probably have a thing for “vintage” design. To celebrate that good taste of yours for an ‘old but gold’ vibe, allow us to walk you through the 5 steps that will turn your living room into the perfect retro little wonder.

STEP 1: Do not fear change

STEP 1: Do not fear change

This is a given, but also, a too-often-forgotten piece of advice. Getting rid of our old classics is not always an easy task. We do get emotionally attached to our furniture…but let’s be honest: who’s never Marie Kondo’ed their place reluctantly, ending up thanking whoever forced them to do so as soon as that mission’s completed? Guilty as charged over here.

So remember this: nothing is irreplaceable and if you feel tired of coming home to the same old classics, do not delay any further getting funky with the place you call home.

STEP 2: Pick your main course,
the sofa

Oh you’ve seen them plenty of times…these majestic retro seatings that smell of pricey Cuban cigars and desperate housewives.

If you’ve ever wondered where to find the sofa that’s going to turn your home into a 70’s movie set, look no further: we’ve got a few of them to introduce you to. Maries Corner’s one and only sectional HAMLET will stroll its retro look in your living room while guaranteeing loads of comfort to the whole family.

The SULLIVAN will, in turn, effortlessly level up your vintage game with its design, as will the GEORGIA or even the MICHIGAN. Pick your favourite and complete step 2 of this “going vintage” guide.

STEP 3: Pick your colours and
textures

STEP 3: Pick your colours and
textures

When you think “vintage”, chances are high that you’re picturing a tobacco-coloured couch, topped with some mustard-yellow pillows, lightened by an orange lamp, with some sort of white wooden cabinet in the backdrop and, of course, a super loaded wallpaper. Well, that’s it.

You can totally recreate this picture in your home, picking your own colours. Get that avocado-green sofa or armchair that makes your heart beat a little faster; go full on velvet, don’t be shy (by the way, we’re sure you will love our SCOTT armchair in its brand new olive colour and embossed velvet version).

Throw some contrasting coloured pillows on it; combine the whole thing with black, white or brown brass or rattan furniture such as a coffee table, a dining table and/or a cabinet, pick a lively coloured lamp and do not forget to put a filament light bulb in it to keep the lighting on the retro side. Finally, pick your wallpaper and go heavy on patterns. As a matter of fact, prefer patterns all through your colour selection process. They are the absolute key to a perfect vintage touch

STEP 4: Pick your table and chairs

The epicentre of your living room, your coffee table should stand on stylish feet and match the general decorum. So if you’ve set your mind on a full-on vintage look, your table better not be the elephant in the room.

The SOTO coffee table we’ve been proud to introduce this year through our new collection 2021 is a brilliant fit for this look. Around the dining table, opt for a retro-looking set of chairs. Our DIXIE chair is a good instance of that and would perfectly do the trick if you’re aiming for a vintage setting.

STEP 5: Accessorize away

STEP 5: Accessorize away

This is where colours and shapes lose all boundaries. In the framework of your vintage makeover, go all out. We can easily recommend to you the sublime LITIS pillows and their vibrant colours that shall contrast with your sofa, as well as GUAXS decorative objects and their unusual shapes that will help you build up the room geometrical structure and feel.

Do not underestimate the power of the wallpaper, as mentioned before. CMO PARIS is a master in delivering the edgiest patterns, that can litterally steal any show. Complete this look with a retro mirror, a flowery tablecloth and anything that features a geometrical shape to accessorize successfully.
